James H. Kavanagh likes long sentences. And most of the time they do not enlighten the reader, but only confuse them. Its hard to keep focused on the point when a sentence runs on for half a paragraph. Yet, I'm more than half way through his essay Ideology, and I'm still not sure on the true definition of ideology. This is troublesome since I eagerly signed up to write an essay on it. Woo. Anyways, just taking a break from the reading and getting all my frustration out about Jimmy K and his run-on-and-on sentences before heading back to the world of Ideology....

Yeah, I'm trying to write the essay as we (sort of) speak. I'm glad i'm not the only one struggling to understand what this guy is saying. I took a bunch of notes. I don't know how helpful they'd be, but you're welcome to have a look.
I HATE (I use that word too much) when writers use long sentences. Despite the fact they are usually filled with extra (meaning useless) information, they are just hard to follow along with all of the commas and junk. It just makes their point even more abstract and frustrating to get to. Actually... now that I think of it maybe frustrating the reader is some secret author trick in order to test the reader. Well since I put it that way.... keep on going! Don't let the author beat you! You don't want for Jimmy K. to have the satisfaction of knowing he defeated you. Wow...(Nigel I hope you notice all the ellipses) that started and ended in 2 totally different places. Anyway, good luck, and just skip all that extra junk in those long sentences.
